A Fortress Through Time

Bled Castle's story begins over a thousand years ago. First mentioned in a 1011 AD deed of donation from the German King Henry II to the Bishop of Brixen, it is officially the oldest castle in Slovenia. Initially just a Romanesque tower, it was expanded over the centuries with more towers and fortifications, creating the dramatic structure we see today.

The castle has a unique double structure with a fortified central part for the lords and an outer section with walls for servants. It has survived earthquakes and fires, with each renovation adding layers of history. Today, it stands not just as a defensive fortress but as a vibrant museum, restaurant, and cultural venue, offering a window into the rich history of the Bled region.
